About Sweet Potato Taxes
Have you ever avoided filing your taxes because you felt overwhelmed? I have, for years! Because of the exploitative nature of racialized capitalism, we have all been hurt by classism (even if we materially benefit from this system). For many of us, and for good reasons, thinking about money can bring up feelings like fear and avoidance. This is especially true during tax season.
Beyond understanding deductions and credits, my biggest skill as a tax preparer is a gentleness towards these parts of us. My goal in working with you is to help you face this part of your financial life feeling supported, empowered, and at ease, so you can get on with the parts of your life that matter most.
And why sweet potatoes? I love when a sweet potato has been sitting on a counter or in a dark corner for a long time and starts sprouting leaves, it’s only fuel it’s own sweet potato energy. May we all be as internally resourced as the sweet potato, always searching for the light.
About Rebecca
I started doing taxes as a volunteer in 2017 at an IRS VITA site in Boston. As a volunteer, I noticed how vulnerable it could be to have someone else doing your taxes and what a difference a little kindness could make.
I now have eight years of tax season experience through volunteering and contracting at various firms during tax season. I am currently studying to become an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (this means I will be able to wholly represent clients before the IRS in the case of an audit, which I am currently unable to do).
I also have about a decade of experience working on small-scale, sustainable farms. When I am not doing taxes, I am a birth and postpartum doula.
As an Aquarius with a Capricorn stellium, I’m passionate about community carework, ending white supremacy and imperialism, and dreaming about the world to come.
